Checklist · BAS readiness

A cleaner lead-up to BAS.

Your engagement and software determine the exact process, but these are the common foundations of a calmer review.

  • All bank and credit-card accounts are connected and reconciled to the agreed date.
  • Sales, expense and GST coding questions are resolved rather than parked.
  • PAYG withholding and superannuation records are complete where relevant.
  • Cash transactions, owner contributions and private-use items are identified.
  • Supporting records are retained in the agreed secure system.
  • Any income-tax question is separated for the registered tax agent.

Protect the keys to the business.

A bookkeeper may need powerful access. That does not mean sending passwords by email or through a website form.

  • Verify the practitioner and contracting entity.
  • Sign an engagement that names the services, fees, systems and responsibilities.
  • Invite a named user with the least access needed; never share your own password.
  • Use multi-factor authentication and review access when the engagement ends.
  • Understand which cloud providers and countries will process the information.
